SA almond company boosts production despite drought
Friday, September 07, 2007
Despite the big dry, an almond processor in South Australia's Riverland received a record volume of almond kernels this season.
Almondco, at Renmark, took in more than 7,500 tonnes.
The company's group general manager Brenton Woolston says that is up 55 per cent on the previous record set in 2004.
"We've sort of been hovering around a bit over 5,000 tonnes for the last few years so with additional new plantings coming on in production, and obviously very good crop yields experienced through most growing regions this year, it's had a significant impact on our intake," he said.
