Faster data for weather bureau
Monday, March 23, 2009
The weather bureau says it is getting new "supercomputers" to improve the reliability of its forecasts.
The $30 million computers will be used by the bureau, universities and research organisations like the CSIRO to crunch data faster.
The Bureau of Meteorology's Dr Neville Smith says the computers will predict extreme weather faster and give scientists the extra computing power needed for climate change research.
